FIFA Women's World Cup 2007 Group C
Norway were ranked third in the world and had qualified undefeated. Australia had transferred to the Asian Football Confederation in 2006 in order to play in a more competitive environment. To mark this they had been awarded hosting rights for the finals of the 2006 AFC Women's Asian Cup which was played in Adelaide. The Matildas lost in the final to China which qualified them for the World Cup. Ghana had, as was becoming customary, qualified as runners-up to Nigeria in the 2006 African Women's Championship
